OCDSB Response to the OPERI Delegation

(The following is the text of an email OPERI received from the OCDSB after its presentation to the Committee of the Whole on June 7th. The email was copied to trustees and to the OCDSB director.)

Dear Richard:

Thank you for taking the time to attend the Committee of the Whole meeting on 7 June 2016 as a delegation. Trustees enjoyed hearing about OPERI and your ideas on education.

Every year, staff receives many proposals from associations and organizations who are interested in developing partnerships with the OCDSB. Depending on the needs of the school district, staff determines which proposals will be accepted and implemented in the OCDSB.

Many of the ideas you mentioned during your delegation are reflected in the work we are currently doing. For example, we have a team of instructional coaches who work with classroom teachers throughout the school district on inquiry-based learning and student-centred learning. We are seeing enhanced student engagement in our classrooms as a result of this important work.

The OCDSB will not be entering into a partnership with OPERI. However, staff and trustees will continue to access information through your organization’s website as we do with many other educational organizations.

Thank you again for presenting as a delegation and for your interest in public education.

Best wishes,

Shirley
