It’s a World Café

ANNOUNCING

“It’s a World Café”

Tuesday, February 23rd, 7 – 9 pm
The Richelieu-Vanier Community Centre – Accueil Hall
300 Des Peres Blancs Ave., Vanier
(See below for bus and driving directions,
and book sales info.)
Free parking on site.

This Café sponsored by OPERI is a follow-up to the Ottawa screening of Beyond Measure, but you do not need to have seen the film to participate. It’s an event for anyone who feels that public education needs to methodically and responsibly explore new directions. The comments of people who attended the screening reflect a strong desire for change and we need everyone with similar concerns to make themselves known.

The evening will begin with a provocative video by Peter Hutton titled: “What If Students Controlled Their Own Learning?” and then follow the World Café meeting format where people divide into groups of 4 to a table and have 20 minutes to answer a question that is provided. At the end of the 20 minutes, each table will report on what was said, and then 3 out of the 4 people will change tables and the process repeats.

The questions provided to the tables are action oriented. To bring about change, they ask:

  • What is needed?
  • What can we do ourselves?
  • How do we do it?
  • What help do we need from others?

It should be a fun and stimulating evening. Again, please invite others to join us. Feel welcome to contact OPERI if you have questions (info@operi.ca, 613-747-5689).
